This 5-part series breaks down the core elements of effective communication, guiding you through key areas that will empower you to thrive as an individual and as a member of a team. Each module is tailored to elevate your communication skills and turn obstacles into opportunities for connection.
1. Communication Competence: Learn the art of effective communication. Understand the foundations of intentional messaging and gain the skills to express your ideas with precision.
2. Default Conflict Styles: Understand your default conflict style and how it impacts your interactions. Discover how to adapt to different situations, fostering better resolutions and healthier relationships.
3. Power Dynamics: Explore the unseen forces at play in any conversation. Learn to recognize and navigate power dynamics, and discover how to use them to foster collaboration and mutual respect.
4. Cultures of Concern: Examine four red flag cultures and discover how naming those cultures can be transformative in individual relationships and within a team culture.
5. Communication in Action: Put your newfound skills into practice. Tackle real-world scenarios to enhance your ability to communicate under pressure and in diverse settings—no matter the challenge
Throughout this journey, you’ll refine your communication skills and build stronger connections with those around you. You’ll learn to turn tension into teamwork by establishing healthy communication skills, addressing conflicts with clarity, understanding the role of power, and naming toxic cultures.
While growth will happen in our group sessions, individuals will have the opportunity to engage in a private Slack channel between our sessions. This is a great space to dive into the application of the skills being taught.

Facilitator: Molly Grisham
After a long career in Higher Education, Molly Grisham left that industry to start her own business. She now works as a Keynote Speaker and Experiential Facilitator. She helps groups with issues like team building, leadership development, and conflict resolution. With nearly two decades of experience as a College Soccer Coach and Communication Professor, Molly approaches her work as an educator. She meets people where they are and helps them move to where they want to be.
Molly holds degrees in Communication from Belmont University, the University of Illinois, and Missouri State University.
Molly is down-to-earth and compels her audience to participate in the learning process. She engages groups from the moment she steps in front of them and leaves them with tools and processes to use long after an event has ended.
When not facilitating, Molly can be found at her favorite used bookstore and at various international restaurants in St. Louis.
Facilitator: Melissa Maier
College professor and conflict consultant, Melissa Maier helps teams across educational and professional organizations understand how communication is shaping their culture. She knows that culture is better when the players understand how communication and behaviors shape organizations. She helps individuals identify their own communication behaviors and develop action plans for improvement.
Melissa holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and an M.A. in Communication from the University of Montana. She is an Associate Professor of Communication at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minnesota where she teaches organizational communication, conflict, and mediation and negotiation courses. Melissa is an experienced civil and family mediator, restorative justice facilitator, and organizational consultant.
As a communication and conflict consultant, she works with academic and corporate institutions on organizational assessment, strategic planning, organizational development, communication and culture, and strategic problem solving. She trains professionals on dealing with challenging people in the workplace, workplace bullying, effective conflict management skills, and effective communication.
Melissa enjoys learning alongside her clients. She builds educational communities by inviting all to the table. She knows learning is more effective when clients do most of the talking. As a skilled facilitator, she promotes experiential learning and uses her skills as a scholar to help clients understand the theoretical explanations for their experiences.
